COSTUME RESEARCH: GUNSO

GUNSO, the leader of DOVE professional wrestling, has an overwhelming charisma and visual appeal that fascinates viewers regardless of gender. He immersed himself in music and pursued the methodology of the indies, which he has put into his costume, which he spoke about today.

HAIRSTYLE
Hair is dreadlocked. He says that he had to cut his long hair short when he broke his neck and after that he had red hair and bobs. He made it into dreads when it grew long again, and he wanted to make them look as natural as possible rather than just a copy of someone else's. He says that the downside is that if barbed wire gets caught in it, he can't take it out.

KNIVES
His two Shino are his trademark.
"It's a tool for winding wire. I started using them when I bought scissors to a Deathmatch Carnival, and Masashi Takeda bought in a scissors board. I thought, "I can't use this...". After I lost them at the venue I searched under the ring and found these. If you where to really hit someone with it, you would kill them, but when you pierce someone with it they don't know how to deal with it, so they have holes in their head".

SHIRT
The shirt is custom made and is based on commercially available work clothes. It is modelled after a design seen in 1970s punk made for him SEDITIONARIES (a company who fuse classic designs with modern rock). The design around the sleeve is of an evil dictator leading a group with the words "Necessary Evil" under it.

TATTOOS
GUNSO says he had his first tattoo at 29. One of his band members died in a traffic accident, and to commemorate it he had a close friend who was a tattoo artist make a picture of him so he wouldn't forget him. He has so many now that GUNSO says his arms look "biomechanical" with both arms looking like a "living creature" (note, he also said once that he can't go to public swimming pools with them).

BOOTS
GUNSO folds the tops of his socks over the tops of his boots. Originally he wrestled in socks in the style of Dynamite Kid, but he found them slippery and difficult to use, so he started wearing boots with socks by Dr Martin. As for the boots themselves, he says they are the only part that signifies he is a pro-wrestler, but he wanted to make them look like work boots like the rest of his outfit.

The essence of indie wrestling is "Death match and hardcore" which are "dangerous work". GUNSO uses "Dickies" for his deathmatch matches as "if you use a normal costume in a deathmatch, you will have to remake it every time, so you need to use something that is hard to tear and hard to penetrate". He finds the American workwear brand to be an excellent concept based on workwear. It is durable, somewhat fire resistant, easy to move around in and can be washed many times. A friend had designed the lower part of the costume, and he had done the upper which he did on a cutting machine and using an iron press. Another tattoo he has, is designed to look like its biting the opponent and staring into the audience when he has them in a headlock.

"DOVE The Movie"

About
"Dove The Movie" was Dove's winning entry into Nico Nico's competition for "Local Professional Wrestling Promotions PV Summit" (PV being "Promotional Video") as voted for by fans.

Plot
Kabuki Kid and HAYATA meet up with a couple of shady individuals standing on an Osaka street corner in the Ame-Village ("America Village") district, next to a yellow brightly lit vending machine. Kabuki Kid (not HAYATA) greets them with a fist bump, and a mysterious package is produced (which apparently makes a crumpling noise according to Kabuki Kid). Money is furtively exchanged in the manner of drug dealers, and Kabuki Kid and HAYATA continue on their way.

They walk along the street, Kabuki Kid waving the mysterious package around as he talks, and HAYATA smoking, when they come across a gang of thugs (Kengo, Tadasuke who has a table, Shoichi Uchida, Kazuaki Mihara and Gunso, who thinks that his tattoos won't be noticed  if he hides under his cap). Kabuki Kid goes quiet, and then throws his head in a grimacing motion, like he had been expecting them. For extra sinister effect, Tadasuke and Uchida are wearing sunglasses, at night.
Kengo threatens them, and Kabuki Kid and HAYATA run off, chased by the gang of thugs. Kabuki Kid is felled by a chair that Kengo hits him with, and then gets into a tug of war over the mysterious package. Tadasuke then lifts Kabuki Kid into a powerbomb, and drives him through the table. As everyone stands around celebrating, HAYATA breaks free from Kazuaki Mihara, grabs the mysterious package, and runs off with Gunso (yeah, we know its you), Kengo, Mihara and Tadasuke. Further fighting follows with HAYATA making use of his urban fighting skills. He runs, jumps a barrier, and then finds himself surrounded. He manages to fight them off, and grabs a random ladder which is by a nearby tree, and throws it at them managing to knock everyone to the floor. HAYATA climbs the ladder (which is being held by someone), and somersaults on them. He then looks at them, takes the mysterious package out of his jacket, nods and then heads off into the night.

Gunso is singing to himself and fixing a skateboard, when HAYATA strolls in, cigarette in mouth. At first Gunso thinks he has bad news, but no, it's all good. HAYATA produces the mysterious package from his jacket, and hands it to Gunso. Gunso opens it excitedly (after checking that HAYATA is okay), and it turns out to be a VHS tape called "Dove Puroresu", which he sniffs before putting into the VHS player. The video that plays is a promo for Dove.

You can view the video here.

Did you notice?
~ Kabuki Kid has a finger injury.
~ HAYATA avoiding all physical contact with the VHS dealers
~ Kengo drinks beer before threatening Kabuki Kid & HAYATA
~ If you look when the chase scene starts, Tadasuke can be seen for a split second running with the table over his head.
~ If you watch the background after Kabuki Kid is hit with the chair, you will notice HAYATA walk over to Gunso, stop, look down at him and then wait to get grabbed by Mihara which sets up the next scene.
~ Everyone except Shoichi Uchida winds up in the final fight scene. He vanishes just before Tadasuke puts Kabuki Kid through a table.
~ By the time Tadasuke puts Kabuki Kid through a table, he has lost his sunglasses.
~ HAYATA really catches Tadasuke when he kicks him round the head.
~ The neon yellow glimpses of HAYATA'S boxer shorts
~ The skateboard that Gunso is fixing has an image of "Our Lady of Guadalupe" on it
~ It's 2016. Why isn't it a DVD? Why does Gunso STILL have a VHS player?
~ How no one passing by at all in this crazy town, takes any notice of a group of guys running around the city, fighting.
~ It never actually ever says that this is "Dove The Movie" on the opening credits.

(DOVE) ~ AGEHA OSAKA (21st June 2015)

Notable card
YO-HEY vs Naoki Tanazaki (Tanazaki is an old friend from DragonGate). Tanazaki bought a dancer with him to the ring, and the match involved chairs (he won).

Shoichi Uchida & Ray Paloma vs Yas Kubota & Brother Yasshi. Yas Kubota called Uchida & Paloma "The Naked Brothers" (Yasshi got the win thanks to using a crutch belonging to Yas's twin brother, on Ray's crotch)

Tadasuke vs Kenshin Chikano (Tadasuke won)

This video of a man scorned over a DVD, led to Kabuki Kid teaming with Tsubasa against HAYATA & Gunso, in "Kabuki Kid's Sorrow: Beyond Grace". Kabuki Kid and Tsubasa won.

The event
The venue had changed a lot since Dove where there last, it was far more plush and swanky and looks like it was primarily used for hostess parties, and with the big pink heart at the door, probably as a strip club too.

Ray Paloma returned from injury, he had been out for about a year. Today he had also had a personal tragedy as his father had passed away, and the funeral was held earlier in the day.

Shoichi Uchida said he had been on a quest to lose weight, he had planned to drop to 77kg, but ended up 75kg.

Apparently one of the Kubota brothers (Hide) does not own a computer.

HAYATA (a fussy eater), accidentally ate some pickles according to YO-HEY. It took him about 14 seconds until he realised.

Dove ran a fundraiser for Hide Kubota, who was injured and had to walk with a cane. However, this didn't stop him from using said cane on Ray Paloma...

Naturally "The Naked Brothers" ended up embracing

While HAYATA avoids the camera, YO-HEY loves being photographed, and would stick his face right in the camera of the fans who were taking pictures at ringside.

(DOVE) GYM WARS #6 ~ 22nd February 2015

GYM WARS #6 was held in the Dove dojo in Hiroshima. The event was meant to start at 2pm, but naturally, this being Dove, it was delayed.

Notable card (or in this case the card as there were only three matches)
Tadasuke vs YO-HEY vs Hiroaki Moriya (Tadasuke lost when he attacked YO-HEY with a chair)
AK & GUNSO vs Shoichi Uchida & Hayato Yamada
Kabuki Kid & Raipachi Isobe vs HAYATA & Yoshiaki Iwata (I think HAYATA might have submitted).

The two young teenage trainees, Aoki and Kohei, did an exhibition match before the three main matches began. The match only lasted five minutes, and it came to a draw.

The event
Kabuki Kid served "four kind of mushroom" and chicken curry soup.

Moriya became an honorary GinGin boy for the evening.

While the soup was delicious (it was almost sold out), and the wrestling was good, unfortunately the audience were described as "sluggish".

(DOVE) BUMP BUMP REVOLUTION 11 (20th December 2015)

Ray Paloma is convinced (and remains convinced) that the event is called "Bump Bang", and said that his face in this poster looked like an adult coloring book. Speaking of adult things, Shoichi Uchida griped that a review he wrote for an adult toy on a blog got deleted.

This was Dove's big end of year event, and everyone was excited (Tadasuke said he couldn't sleep), and aftershow party was going to be held in Hiroshima. Aoki drove the van to the venue from Osaka, and bought YO-HEY along for the ride. YO-HEY bought, shall we say, choice reading material (i.e. a pink magazine), and called him the "Sports Bra Champion."

Kenshin Chikano made a radio appearance.

Notable card
TSUBASA & Kabuki Kid VS Shoichi Uchida & Yas Kubota.

GinGin Boys vs Tadasuke & HAYATA (GinGin Boys won)

Main event was GUNSO vs Ray Paloma for the Dove Championship (Paloma was champion, and he ended up retaining, but only by countout.)

The event
Shoichi Uchida came to the ring in a Santa hat and beard, and handed out presents to fans (hopefully it was not samples of the item he claimed to review). GinGin boys also wore hats, but kind of those flat paper hats you get from fast food restaurants, which they had gotten from their visit to Awaji Island Ranch with Fun Experience Land. For Christmas some very kind person tucked a real bill into YO-HEY'S pants, which Referee Yoshino noticed and removed

Whatever kind of athletic spray or aftershave that YO-HEY uses, once again caused excitement.

Kenshin Chikano's mother came to the event, and handed out paper tape for her son. I wonder what she thought of this

(DOVE) TIGER GYM #7 (22nd March 2015)

Notable card
Both HAYATA & YO-HEY are on the card. No Tadasuke though. I am unsure about the exact card, but I know it was a tag in which they faced each other.

The event
Kabuki Kid cooked up a storm to prepare 20 meals for visiting fans, which included pork soup, curry, fried chicken wings.

Dojo (which has no heating) was said to be comfortably warm for late March. An upcoming show was announced, which YO-HEY helped advertise.

HAYATA has been coming out to "Painkiller" for the past five or six years (as of 2020 as he was using it in this event).

(DOVE) Dove & Dotonbori Gym dojo "Tiger Gym" opens ~ 28th June 2014

For the trainees, GUNSO said that he was always looking to put them through endurance tests in what he called an "Iron Wall" lineup. He made it sound like it was something out of The Raid with HAYATA on the 1st floor, TORU on the 2nd, Kabuki Kid on 3rd and Shoichi Uchida on the 4th. The dojo was to be multifunctional with not only wrestling taught there, different companies could hire it out to each martial arts, MMA etc. Dove owned it alongside another promotion, Dotonbori, which are based in Osaka.

The gym was probably named after Tiger Oriental who appeared in Dove, and like all dojo's it is very spartan, with only a ring, basic facilities, and heating via a oil heater for the winter, with the big doors open in the summer. I don't think that it has any facility for trainees to live in the dojo, which is why they were stating that while all trainees where welcome, its preferable that they live locally in Hiroshima.
More information on the entry terms and conditions can be found here

On the day of the opening to welcome fans and wrestlers alike, GUNSO put a sign outside that read "drinking party".

(DOVE) GYM WARS #13 ~ 17th October 2015

The event today was held at the Dove dojo, which apparently had a cockroach problem. HAYATA bought cockroach spray with him, but only for his own luggage.

Notable card
HAYATA vs Yuki Aoki (Aoki is his trainee who had just made his debut)
Kabuki Kid vs Tadasuke
Ultimate Spider Jnr & Tomo Enokinami vs YO-HEY & Jun Masaoka

(DOVE) TOKYO BIG TAKEOVER 2017 (20th May 2017)

"TOKYO BIG TAKE OVER 2017, can you survive?"
Kabuki Kid

"Dove Pro Wrestling is a public men's school, famous for gathering dangerous people. Lead by a charismatic gang leader, it has a strong sense of companionship. BASARA is a private, free-style international school. There is a faction in the school, and a group of Americans is now dominant. The two schools are in conflict."

Event was held at ShinKiba 1st Ring. GUNSO said something about changing it to the Tokyo Dome depending on the 100 people who wanted to come, then he settled on ShinKiba. Event was broadcast on NicoNico.

Fans commented on the poster (apparently YO-HEY is making an obscene gesture, although I can't make out what it is), and were touched that despite the fact that Dove are not the most wealthy promotion, they took the time to get the flyers and posters printed on high quality paper. Speaking of paper, only ladies were given the GinGin boy currency today.

Reserved seats went quickly, and it was noted that ShinKiba was overcrowded today, especially compared to how it was when Dove were last here.

YO-HEY went fishing before the event, and made jokes about his "rod" becoming 70mm.

Notable card
Tag championship match: GinGin Boys vs HAYATA & Tadasuke (challengers). By this time HAYATA, YO-HEY & Tadasuke were in Noah and had formed RATELS with Daisuke Harada. Fans wondered if Harada would attend. Harada didn't attend, and the GinGin Boys won, and they celebrated in true style.

Shoichi Uchida vs Black Buffalo

Main event was GUNSO & Kabuki Kid vs Yuko Miyamoto & Kodaka Isami (Isami and Miyamoto won).

The event
Aoki still called himself "Sunshine Aoki" - which is kind of ironic.

"How to enjoy Dove wrestling. First, everyone drinks tequila"
Drinking started even before the event had begun, when Brother YASSHI and Kenshin Chikano came out with two bottles of tequila, and liberally poured drinks for the audience. Then YASSHI got in the ring and cut a promo about manners and morals

Tadasuke and HAYATA both sat down in the ring to wait for the GinGin Boys to finish their entry. They went round the arena three times! When they eventually got in the ring, Tadasuke threw bits of streamers at them, ripped up one of their fallen (watermarked) notes, and later spat water. The girls in the crowd however, were intoxicated by whatever spray it is that YO-HEY was using. Speaking of intoxication, Referee Yoshino would not let the two younger guys on the roster, Kinoshita and Aoki, have any tequila.

Ray Paloma had a disco ball, and Uchida and Chikano were his seconds. The match was done like an old school wrestling match in catch style (although naturally it deviated from this when Paloma decided to take off his clothes), which went three minutes with five rounds each. In the interval the theme music from Shaolin Soccer was played. The match then turned into an MMA match, when Fukiya (an MMA fighter) put on a chokehold. After the match Paloma hugged everyone, who pretended to cry emotionally.
Left in the ring, with the chairs that somehow Ray had set up and didn't use, and which everyone had just left standing and gone. Referee Yoshino said he was going to have to clear this up.

Main event was typically hardcore involving tables (Kabuki Kid was driven through one by Miyamoto), and Isami carved GUNSO'S forehead up using GUNSO'S own knives.

Gunso announced that Dove would be returning to ShinKiba in November. After which, there was the usual drinks in the ring, and somehow they got HAYATA to do a shooting star press.
